Welcome to our Year 2 page!

Our Teachers and Teaching Assistants

2WP is taught by Mrs Wilson (Monday, Tuesday) and Wednesday and Mr Hulse (Thursday and Friday). Our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Kean.

2W is taught by Mrs Reid (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and by Mis Penson (Thursday and Friday). Our teaching assistant is Mrs Smith.

In English this term, we are reading fairy tales written by the Brothers Grimm. We will use these stories to re-write their tales, write our own fairy tales and write non-fiction texts based on the events in the stories.

In Maths this term, we will be focusing on multiplication, preparing to learn our times tables. We will use this knowledge to learn more about fractions and time.

In Science, we will continue to explore materials and their properties focusing in on absorbency and being waterproof. Then, we will move onto Plants and Living Things, where we hope to grow some things of our own.

History and Art

In History, we will be focusing in on Important People and Inventors which we will enhance with a trip to SS Great Britain in Bristol on Tuesday 19th March. Our Art is all about pattern, collage and weaving.

In RE this term, we will be learning about Judaism and Islam, comparing them to what we have already learnt about Christianity.

In PE this term, we are completing health related exercise.

2W have PE on Fridays

2WP have PE on Wednesdays

Spellings and Reading

Spellings will be sent home on a Tuesday to be tested on the following Monday.

All children have reading books and diaries. Please read with your children at home and fill in the diary.

  Please remember…

All children must have a PE kit in school. PE kits should stay in school and not come home and back. They have one outdoor and one indoor session of PE  per week.

We will send PE kits home for washing as is necessary.

Reading must be daily. It is so important that you hear your child read for at least 5 minutes every day. Please record this in the reading diary. Books will be changed once per week.  Book bags must be in school every day.

Spellings should be practiced daily for 5 minutes. Spelling tests are on Friday for Mrs Wadsworth’s group and on Monday for Mrs Wilson's group. If your child doesn’t have their spelling words, please ask for them.

You can support your child’s Maths learning at home by;

  • Helping them to tell the time for O’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to
  • Helping them to learn the 10 x table, 5 x table, 2 x table and 3 x table
  • Memorising doubles and halves of numbers to 20 (6 + 6, half of 12)
  • Practising using money in real life situations
