Badger Class - Autumn 2026 Newsletter
We are all so pleased to welcome the children into Badger class. Below are some details about what the children will be learning about this term.
In Maths this term Year 1 will begin by focusing on number and place value to 10. We will be counting, reading and writing numbers to 10 and then progressing to 20 and we will be representing these numbers using objects. We will also be looking at addition and subtraction of numbers to 10. In Year 2, we will also be focussing on number and place value as we focus on number to 100. Year 2 will also focus on their times tables as they work on counting in their 2, 3, 5 and 10’s. Year 2 will also work on addition and subtraction within 100, working on double digit addition and subtraction.
In English in Year 1 we are looking at fiction focusing on character descriptions and sequencing familiar stories. We will be enjoying stories that focus on rhyme. We will also be learning about labels and captions in books. We focus heavily on phonics in Year 1 and teach daily sessions on this. Year 2 will also look into character description and narratives as they explore a variety of popular books by Julia Donaldson.
Reading is a priority and we will read regularly with your child focusing on phonic skills and also understanding of story events and characters. All children have reading books and diaries. Please read with your children at home and fill in the reading diary. We will continue with Rainbow Readers too. If you read with your child 5 times a week for 5 weeks and record this in their reading diary, they can choose a book to keep.
In Science we will explore habitats, food chains and living things. We will learn how animals and plants depend on their environment to survive. Later, we will learn about healthy lifestyles and how humans and animals grow and change.
In Geography, History and Art: In Geography we will learn about human and physical features and compare the cities of London and Nairobi. In History we will discover how the Great Fire of London started, spread and changed the city. In Art we will experiment with different drawing materials and learn how artists create texture and movement in their work.
In PE this term, we will be focusing on agility, balance and dance. After half term we will be doing throwing and catching skills. Our PE day is Wednesday, please could children have a named PE kit in school at all times.

Badgers is taught by Miss Cutter with Mrs James teaching on a Tuesday morning.
Our teaching assistants across Year 1/2 are Mrs Stephens, Miss Regan and Mrs Ayaz.
