Year 2

Welcome to our Year 2 page!

Hello and welcome to Year 2 class page.

Mrs Wadsworth, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Hargaden are our teachers and we have Mrs Price and Mrs New working with us.

 We are so proud of the progress that the children made during their first term in Year Two. They have returned to school  excited and enthusiastic about their learning and have made lots of ambitious new year resolutions. We are expecting more great things from them!

 Please remember…

All children must have a PE kit in school. PE kits should stay in school and not come home and back. They have one outdoor and one indoor session of PE  per week. As it is cold, it is advisable that children have a pair of tracksuit bottoms to wear on outdoor days.

We will send PE kits home for washing as is necessary.

Homework

Reading must be daily. It is so important that you hear your child read for at least 5 minutes every day. Please record this in the reading diary. Books will be changed once per week.  Book bags must be in school every day.

Spellings should be practiced daily for 5 minutes. Spelling tests are on Friday for Mrs Wadsworth’s group and on Monday for Mrs Wilson/Mrs Hardigan’s group. If your child doesn’t have their spelling words, please ask for them.

Maths homework will continue to be sent home on a Friday and must be returned on Thursday.

What we are learning this term…

We will be whizzing around the world as we learn about the Winter Olympics. Children will be learning about the United Kingdom and the continents of the world. They will be learning how life is different in different places.

In Science we will be exploring and comparing the differences between things that are living, dead or have never been alive. We will also learn about living things and their habitats.

You can support your child’s Maths learning at home by;

  • Helping them to tell the time for O’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to
  • Helping them to learn the 10 x table, 5 x table, 2 x table and 3 x table
  • Memorising doubles and halves of numbers to 20 (6 + 6, half of 12)
